Have we lost our bearings, or not ? Despite this recording's constant efforts to throw us off the beaten track, its sound always seems limpid and self-assured. The ear is constantly surprised without ever getting lost. Yves Dormoy's music has a natural, inherently logical flow, thanks firstly to its sound clarity and the exceptional fluency of mixing where the most unexpected elements, the most heterogeneous textures, are never allowed to become confused. But also, and more mysteriously, to the music's uncanny dramatic drive, its way of keeping us in suspense, of avoiding resolution, of maintaining its inner tension. What it gives to hear, purely, almost natively, is the clear enigma of Jazz, its familiar yet foreign voice, irresistible.
